Sunflower Fatty Acid (DOD)

Fatty acids are recognized by-product of vegetable oil refining process, mainly sunflower oil. Fatty acid is a GMP+ certified industrial product, which finds its primary market in the animal formula-feed industry. Introduction of fatty acids or fatty acid-based compounds to the animal feed enables to cut the feed costs. The fatty acids are also used as a direct formula ingredient in food processing, as well as in the production of soap, glycerine and stearin.

When sunflower seeds are processed for the production of refined sunflower oil, sunflower fatty acids are obtained as a side product. There are many acids in the sunflower oil, and the sunflower fatty acid is a blend of oleic, linoleic and other acids. This industrial product needs to be processed further to use it to produce formula feed supplement. In the recovery and analysis of fatty acids, all GMP+ rules are followed. Large tanks are used for the storage of fatty acids. These are shipped in barrels, railroad tanks or specially fitted tank trucks.
